WAR EFFORT ASSISTS THOSE “HERE AT HOME”
White Plains, New York – The plight of families on the home-front has inspired three friends…musicians with other “day” jobs to band together to raise money in an innovative and on-going way.
You may know a “war victim” and not even be aware of it. He or she may not wear khakis…walk with a limp…or may not even be old enough to drive. Who is it? It is the neighbor whose husband, wife, father or mother is called away. These are the “invisible” soldiers, the ones who are left to battle with the effects of missing someone special…in particular, someone who provided financial support that now is half a world away.
There have been war efforts in the past that assisted the men and women overseas – saving tin and metal for production of equipment, selling bonds…etc. Today, support continues in the form of care packages to the troops, free holiday phone calls provided by corporate sponsors and such. But when a group of friends sat down to discuss the issues their friends and acquaintances were facing, they came up with a different solution and formed the Here at Home Song Foundation, Inc. and set out to buoy the families of servicemen and women here in the United States.
A non-partisan war effort.
This approach to “support” is different because it extends a helping hand to families that are struggling to make ends meet now that one or more of the breadwinners are deployed. When someone is shipped out, that person takes with them the earning power that once went toward a mortgage…rent…car payments…child care…any number of serious expenses that simply don’t disappear or diminish because a spouse isn’t around. In fact, these expenses become genuine hurdles that must be cleared each month or they begin to bring a family down.
The Here at Home Song Foundation, Inc. seeks to bridge the gaps created in family incomes that result when one or sometimes both spouses are called into active service. Salaries of servicemen and women often don’t compare to what they were earning before answering Uncle Sam. As time goes on, this shortfall becomes a serious issue to the family as well as to the troops themselves who become troubled by the situations their loved ones face.
Raising their voices to raise money.
To help alleviate these concerns, the nonprofit Here at Home Song Foundation, Inc. was formed. The Foundation was founded by three friends, each with a musical background. Together, they created an easy and innovative method of raising money and awareness of this ever-growing problem that’s found in communities across America. With the recording of “Here at Home,” they produced a song that pays tribute to the strength and patriotism of the silent majority of war heroes – the families that maintain a stable and supportive home for servicemen and women to return to. It is a song that honors and recognizes the silent struggles of families while loved ones are called away.
Participating is easy.
It couldn’t be easier to show support of the troops overseas and their loved ones living right next door. Simply go to the website www.HereatHomeSong.com and download the song for just 99¢ or order a CD for $5. Or, anyone can choose to donate any amount to support the men and women left behind while loved ones are overseas by sending a check made payable to the Here at Home Song Foundation, Inc., 50 North Broadway, Suite 5K, White Plains, New York, 10603. The funds will be collected and distributed to families deemed to be in need of financial support. In fact, 100% of all donations will be distributed to families in need. Only expenses are covered. A goal of collecting $100,000 in 100 days is the first step.
Distributing the funds.
Applications for receiving the funds are being made available to the families of servicemen and women. While funds are being collected, a board of reviewers will evaluate these applications to determine not only their validity but to identify the neediest applicants. Grants between $5,000 and $15,000 will be distributed to those who’ve proven hardship. As additional funds become available through ongoing fundraising efforts, more grants will be conferred.
The time to act is NOW.
The goal of $100,000 in 100 days is just the beginning…but a journey of any length begins with just one step. This is that first step. The success of this project depends on one click of a mouse…one check…one person deciding to tell one more of the Here at Home Song Foundation, Inc. commitment. America’s soldiers have made a commitment to defending freedom, their families have also made a commitment to America – they’ve agreed to let their loved one go. Show your appreciation to them all. Write a check, and tell a friend.
